As part of Monier Victoria’s business partnership with Carwatha College, 24 students attended the ‘Opportunity Knocks’ program, which is a careers session. The Monier team shared their knowledge with the students, with employees discussing their own career paths and how their careers have developed since leaving school.
The students participated in a tour of the concrete plant at Springvale and learnt how roof tiles are manufactured. All students underwent site induction and provided with personal protection gear.
After the tour, the students were split into five groups. Each group had a short session with sales, estimating, customer service, construction and finance. The Springvale team members talked to the students about their own career paths and their position within Monier.
Splitting the students into smaller groups allowed facilitation of discussions with the students about their current employment, how this will impact their career paths, education after high school, important traits that employers look for when recruiting and their future aspirations. It was great to see all the students contributing to these discussions.
